Liturgical Calendar and the Celebration of Holy Days

  • The liturgical calendar as published by the Patriarchal Liturgical Commission in the 1992 Qorbono and official eparchial special commemorations are to be observed in all institutions of the Eparchy.
  • The Holy Days of Obligation as established by both the Particular Law of the Maronite Church (see Maronite Particular Law c. 97, §1; and The Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches c. 880, §1 & §3 and c.882) are:
    • Nativity (December 25)
    • Feast of the Cicumcision of Jesus (Janunary 1)
    • Epiphany (January 6)
    • Saint Maron (February 9)
    • Saint Joseph (March 19)
    • Great Friday of the Crucifixion (movable)
    • Easter Monday (Movable)
    • Ascension of the Lord (40 days after Easter)
    • Apostles Peter and Paul (June 29)
    • Dormition of the Mother of God (August 15)
    • All Saints (November 1)
    • Immaculate Conception (December 8)
    • Patronal Feast of the Parish
  • The Eparchial Bishop delegates the local pastor to move any of the feasts to the nearest Sunday except the following:
    • Nativity (December 25)
    • Epiphany (January 6)
    • Ascension of the Lord (40 days after Easter)
    • Dormition of the Mother of God (August 15)
  • These feasts, which are also common to all Eastern Churches, cannot be transferred without the approval of the Patriarch and his Synod after he had consulted with the Holy See (CCEO c.880, §1).
